I'm Donna Willmott - welcome to my electronic portfolio.

I received my MPH from San Francisco State University's Masters of Public Health in Community Health Education Program in May 2005. This portfolio is meant to demonstrate the quality of my work in the context of our program's professional competencies; it also includes some of the highlights of my work as a community organizer for the rights of prisoners and their families.

As a staff member at Legal Services for Prisoners with Children in San Francisco, I have spent the last 10 years defending the human rights of prisoners. I have been an activist for social justice for many years.

My decision to go back to school to study public health was prompted by a desire to refine my skills as a community organizer. This program has given me new perspectives from which to analyze old problems, new tools to address policy changes I have  been advocating for for many years.

The fact that I live in the country that has the dubious distinction of incarcerating more people than any other country in the world presents a moral, ethical and professional challenge to me - to address, through a public health framework, the harm done to our communities by massive incarceration.
